Our Experience

We are Information Technology Specialists with a rich history of designing and developing web applications across various domains such as E-Commerce, B2B, B2E, and B2C. Our portfolio boasts collaborations with start-ups and multi-billion dollar organizations, including Warner/Chappell Music, Sony Electronics, the Department of Defense, California Department of Health, San Diego State Research Foundation, and San Diego State University.

Our Technical Prowess

Our expertise spans a wide range of programming languages and technologies, including Angular, C, C++, C#, CSS, HTML, Java, Pure Vanilla JavaScript, Pascal, PHP, Python, Node.js, Visual Basic, and VBScript. We engage in continuous research and development, currently focusing on implementing the open/closed principle in system design. This approach ensures our systems are adaptable to future enhancements while remaining robust against unnecessary modifications. We've found Angular Framework to be particularly effective in implementing these advanced programming concepts.

Notable Projects by Fernando Roldan

With over 25 years of experience, Fernando specializes in designing and developing enterprise level evaluation and tracking systems. Projects range from reverse engineering legacy systems to designing new systems taking those projects from inception through completion. Notable projects include the following:

  • San Diego State University: Reversed engineered a 19-year-old legacy flat file faculty appointment tracking system used to manage an annual instructional budget of approximately $90,000,000. The software architectural paper deliverd modeled a new relational database system for more efficient management and compliance.

  • Warner/Chappell Music: Developed a Multi-Project Music Licensing Management System, for use by their clients in the music, motion picture, and television industries. The finished system became an integrated workspace where clients could manage multiple projects, divide a project into sub-folders, compile and group music selections, collaborate with their colleagues, play video and audio files, and then acquire the appropriate type of licensing.

  • San Diego State Research Foundation: Reversed engineered and migrated the data from 10 regional standalone Access database programs into a centralized web-based tracking system. The tracking system is used by the California Department of Health in a statewide breast and cervical cancer detection program that provides free cancer screening to low-income women.

  • Army Center for Substance Abuse Program (DoD): Used JDeveloper to develop a test application and used that information to write a design document for a web service that allowed the Pentagon's Suicide Prevention Taskforce to access information stored in several of ACSAP’s databases. The web service is based upon the Army Service-Oriented Architecture, using WebLogic, Oracle 11g database, and a JAX-WS framework that implements Tactical Services Security System (TS3) Security Handlers.

Jesus Fernando Roldan's Expertise

With over 12 years of experience, Jesus specializes in database driven web applications using PHP, Python, and the MEAN (MongoDB, Express.js, Angular, and Node.js) Stack. Areas of expertise include:

  • Responsive Design: He has extensive experience converting table-based legacy systems to a system that uses responsive design. Responsive design allows the web page to detect if the device is a phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer and then changes its layout so that each user interface is optimized for the device detected.

  • Angular-Based Framework: Has performed extensive R&D in the development of a framework that dynamically generates Angular Components that create themselves by using JSON Objects. Each object sets component attributes, dictates the rules from which that component will create itself, with methods that each component will execute according to specific set of parameters. Otherwise, each component carries its own miniature rules engine.

  • Angular-Based Faculty Tracking System: Developed an Angular based faculty tracking system for licensing as Software as a Service. The system was developed using MongoDB, Express.js, Angular, and Node.js. The marketing version uses California State University (CSU) as the example academic organization. The system is based upon work previously done for San Diego State University (SDSU). Where the SDSU system was designed for handling the workload of a single university the new system is designed to handle the workload of all 23 universities within an umbrella organization such as CSU. Otherwise, the ability to handle workloads that have and will crash most systems.

  • Developing Open/Closed Systems: The open/closed principle in object-oriented programming means you design around an object that is closed to modification because new functionality is handed off to other objects that provide that functionality. This works in object-oriented programming but is difficult to achieve in developing enterprise systems. Jesus is involved in developing systems that take the open/closed principle beyond object-oriented programming to its next evolution as it applies to systems that use sub-systems to provide new functionality. We use Angular to provide the core for the closed system where new functionality is then handed off to Microservices or AWS Lambda Functions. Otherwise, enterprise systems that are more cost effective, easier to develop, and highly extendable.

Our Commitment

At Data Key Design, we are committed to delivering programming solutions that are not only technologically advanced but also intuitive and user-friendly. Our approach is to understand your needs thoroughly and craft a digital ecosystem that brings your ideas to life.
